Permanent Makeup FAQs

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup (PMU) is a cosmetic tattooing technique that uses pigment to enhance features like the eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner. It creates a long-lasting, natural-looking result that minimizes the need for daily makeup application.

How long does PMU last?

Results typically last 1–3 years, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow aftercare. Fading is gradual, and touch-ups are recommended annually to maintain color and shape.

Is permanent makeup really permanent?

PMU is semi-permanent. While the pigment does fade over time, some residual color may remain in the skin. Factors like sun exposure, skincare products, and skin regeneration will affect how long your results last.

Does it hurt?

Most clients report little to no discomfort. A topical anesthetic is usually applied before the procedure begins (unless you prefer no numbing). Some sensitivity may be felt, especially during certain times of the month.

What’s the healing process like?

Initial healing takes about 7–14 days, with full healing around 4–6 weeks. Expect some minor flaking, itching, and softening of the color as the area heals. Aftercare is essential for the best results.

Will I need a touch-up?

Yes. A touch-up appointment 6–8 weeks after the initial session is highly recommended to perfect the shape, color, and overall result. This is considered part of the full treatment process.

Can I get PMU if I’ve had it done before?

Yes, but prior work must be evaluated first. If the existing pigment is too dark, saturated, or uneven, a correction or removal may be required before new work can be done. Pre-approval is required for all new clients with previous PMU.

Are there any reasons I shouldn’t get PMU?

Yes. Certain medical conditions, skin sensitivities, and medications may make you ineligible for PMU. Please review our PMU Health & Safety Guidelines or contact us with questions.
